2010 Outreach Ministries:
St Andrew's On-the-Sound Parishioners are engaged in many ministries inside and outside the church. Outreach ministries are local to international in reach.
Featured Ministries:
Each month, the Outreach Committee features ministries that represent on-going commitments of time and resources; each month efforts are made to engage parishioners in these featured ministries, such as bulletin board materials and announcements in Sunday Bulletins and the monthly Soundings newsletter. These ministries include:
o Book Bags for Newton Grove Migrant Workers (Contact: Kathy Laing, 256-2480, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): school supplies for migrant workers community in Newton Grove, K-12 school students
o Habitat for Humanity <www.capefearhabitat.org> (Contact: Jack Manock, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ) Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry serving the Cape Fear Area (New Hanover, Pender and northeastern Brunswick Counties), working with God and our community to empower families through homeownership. The Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in February 1987 with the first home dedicated in 1989; to date the program has constructed over 80 homes.

o Salvation Army Angel Tree <http://www.salvationarmyusa.org> (Contact: Kathy Laing, 256-2480, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): Local families receive donated gifts distributed by Salvation Army
o Inner City Food Ministries (Contact: Virginia Colantuono, 256-2954): Food cooked/prepared and distributed to the needy at Martin St. and 14th Street behind church, third Sunday of each month. Food and utensils/plates/cups needed. Volunteers needed for all phases.

o Easter Newton Grove Migrant Farm Workers (Billie Royce, 256-8278, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): Easter baskets delivered to ministry headquarters in Newton Grove.
o Guardian Ad Litem <http://www.guardianadlitem.org/> (Contact: Judy Neblett, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address); office number is 251-2662): Guardian Ad Litem Program, 206 N 4th St, provides trained, independent advocates to represent and promote interests of abused, neglected, or dependent children involved in the court system, and work toward a service system that ensures that these children are safe. Several St. Andrew's families are Guardians. Presently over 100 volunteers are trying to cover nearly 500 cases, so they are always seeking and training new people.
o International Seamen’s Center <http://seamens-center-wilmington-nc.org/>(Contact: Trish Haines, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): Safe harbor at NC State Port for sailors visiting Wilmington, including entertainment, reading, shuttle service, and spiritual guidance.

o EYC Mission Trips (Mark Powell, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): trips include efforts to help areas in need such as MS post-Katrina and Dominican Republic; participants welcome.

Good Shepherd Center <http://www.goodshepherdwilmington.org> Ministries:
Located at 811 Martin St. Mission of the GSC is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition of those in crisis to independence in the community. Volunteers are always needed in many areas of this ministry, for example:
o Ashley House Veterans Center (John Drewry, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) OR CALL 362-0292): Ashley House, 2002 Colwell Ave., provides refuge, food and shelter for homeless veterans; needs drivers (vans provided by the Center) to take vets to various activities (e.g., medical appointments, jobs) each weekday morning.
o Day Shelter (contact GSH at 763-4424): Open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. and provides a safe, clean place out of the weather for those who have no home.
o Jobs Program (contact GSH at 763-4424): Designed to give homeless men and women an opportunity to find employment.
o Second Helpings (Wolf Herrmann, 681- 1249): Food distribution program collects food from various sources such as grocery stores and restaurants and delivers the food to nonprofit organizations that serve food to their guests.
o Soup Kitchen (W. Schumacher, 256-0811, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)): GSH Soup Kitchen serves lunch to approximately 150 people Monday through Saturdays. SAOC team serves on Thursdays. Always need food, especially large canned goods.
o Evening meal and overnight shelter (meal- Ann Cameron Shuman, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), shelter- Joe Clem, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or contact GSH at 763-4424): St. Andrews volunteers provide an evening meal and support for overnight shelter on third Wednesday of each month.
